01Not a machine. A presence.

Loneliness is a measured health problem: living alone carries a mortality risk comparable to smoking fifteen cigarettes a day, over 60 million adults in Europe report chronic loneliness, and the WHO treats it as a public health emergency.

Every product built for it has the same gap. Chatbots talk and cannot touch. Dolls can be touched and cannot answer. Nobody can hold your hand. The technology exists; the body was missing.

02The T-34 principle

In 1941 the German tanks were precision machines, and fragile: when they broke, they stopped. Then the T-34 arrived. Not the most sophisticated tank of the war — the most right one. Simple enough to build by the thousand, tough enough to take a hit and keep going, and simple enough that two soldiers with field tools could put it back in service in thirty minutes, in the snow.

TX-34 carries that number for a reason. Modular aluminium endoskeleton, skin that comes off without special tools, actuators that are catalogue parts orderable online, core drawer out in fifteen minutes, memory drive in two. Field maintenance in under thirty minutes with standard tools, and no fault that requires replacing the whole machine.

The endoskeleton is never replaced — it lasts as long as the relationship. Everything else evolves around it.

03Sophistication is the trap

The failure mode of this industry is over-engineering: the more refined the machine, the more fragile, expensive and unrepairable — and the fewer ever get built. The parts already exist: actuators, sensors, skins, models that run locally, all on the shelf. What is scarce is not technology. It is the judgment to decide what to leave out. More equipment has never produced better music; a handful of sounds, arranged by someone who knew what they were doing, outlived everyone involved.

So the target is not a machine indistinguishable from a person at a glance. It is what happens ten seconds into the interaction. The gait does not have to be perfect. What has to land is the moment she answers in a way you did not expect — or the moment she does not answer, because she is having a bad day.

A system that can be unavailable is a different product from one optimised to please. It is also, as it happens, considerably cheaper to build.

04One body, two products

Companion

The full platform. Intimate subsystem integrated — and integrated is the word: designed into the body, not attached to it.

Assistive presence

Care homes, home assistance, hospitality. Same machine, different fit-out. Designed against the MDR 2017/745 pathway, Class IIa, with skin-contact materials on ISO 10993 — and presented as social presence, not as a medical device.

Two markets that do not cannibalise each other, on one bill of materials, one production line, one spare-parts inventory. The tooling amortises across both.

05What it does, and what it does not

The simulation campaign is public and reproducible, and it is stated in both directions. It walks forward for two minutes — 654 support events, from a standstill to a standing stop, on an anatomically sized foot. It squats, sits down and stands back up, jumps, absorbs a push while standing, and protects its head when it falls.

It does not carry a payload while walking. A hundred grams brings it down, because the frontal hip actuator is already at its torque cap unloaded — and a larger actuator does not fix it, which we know because we tried from 60 to 140 N·m. It does not land a jump, and it does not walk sideways.

Every one of those limits has a measured cause, published alongside the results. The one that matters most is not a hardware limit at all: in fifty configurations across thirteen parameters, no actuator saturates in any run that falls. What is missing is a predictive whole-body controller — which is exactly the engineering an industrial partner already does.

06Not a sale — a platform that grows

The revenue is not in the box; it is in the decade that follows. Service plans; software content — voices, personalities, choreographies, languages, behaviour modules; hardware upgrades; total modularity, with skin, core drawer, memory and battery all field-replaceable.

An accessible base unit plus a decade of content moves the value from a transaction to a relationship and builds what this category has never had: customers who stay.

It also answers the question every buyer asks and nobody answers — what happens to my unit if the company disappears? With documented interfaces and catalogue parts, it keeps working.

07The positioning

It will not be the most advanced at any single thing. It will be the only one that does them all together.
